Neil Aston
Neil Aston was born in Stoke-on-Trent, England, in 1971. He studied at Lancaster University, graduating in 1993 with the Director of Music Prize. He subsequently went on to study clarinet at Birmingham Conservatoire with Janet Hilton and Colin Parr
Neil took up conducting at an early age and, whilst in Lancaster, he directed all the University ensembles and orchestras. Further conducting study has included Canford Summer School, the Amadeus Orchestra with Odaline de la Martinez and the English Symphony Youth Orchestra with William Boughton. Most recently, he attended the Dublin Masterclasses with Gerhard Markson and the RTE National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland
In 1993, Neil was invited to become conductor of the Halesowen Orchestra, a positio he held for three years. He is currnetly Music Director of the Worcester Philharmonic Orchestra. He regularly conducts the Birmingham Philharmonic and Charnwood Orchestras at the Birmingham Conservatoire, and recently made his debut with the Redditch Orchestra
In 1997, Neil conducted the British Premiere of the Aratiunian Tuba Concerto, soloist Roger Bobo, at the National Tuba and Euphonium Conference at the Adrian Boult Hall in Birmingham. In the autumn of 1999, he made his operatic debut, conducting La Boheme with Opera Mint. In July 2002, Neil conducted at the Festival of Piano Duos at the Conservatoire di Musica Nicolai Paganini in Genoa, Italy
Neil has a wide range of musical interests. As well as orchestras he has conducted a number of top brass bands and wind bands. He was semi-finalist in a recent European Brass Band Association Young Conductors Competition.
